Oklahoma State University coach Mike Grundy recently “lost it” over a local sports reporter. Grundy was photographed screaming at a post-game crowd gathered for a press conference gathered after OSU’s 49-45 victory over Texas Tech.
What has Grundy so upset is an article that was recently published in an Oklahoma newspaper. Oklahoman columnist Jenni Carlson launched a scathing attack on 21-year old back-up quarterback Bobby Reid. Carlson suggested that Reid was considering transferring, that he doesn’t have the “fire in his belly” for football, and even suggested that he wants to be “coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken” by his mother.
While most agree that Carlson’s article was harsh, we have to keep in mind that Reid is a Division I athlete, with NFL aspirations, and should, honestly get used to the criticism.
The real issue at hand here is Coach Mike Grundy’s reaction to the situation, allegedly screaming at fans and reporters assembled for a post-game press conference. Good Morning American ran a piece wondering if the coach’s tirade was “Out of Bounds”
Gundy’s 31/2-minute speech spread quickly over the Internet, with video Web site YouTube recording more than 75,000 views of the video. As one fan put it, “One has to wonder about Grundy’s violent temper” adding “that guy’s crazy”.
