NJ youth recreation coaches are proud to be batting .001.
Youth sports coaches in Bayonne, NJ recently were subjected to background checks, and according to Bayonne Police Sgt. Kevin Gallagher, of the close to 400 coaches to be checked, only 5 failed the checks.
According to Bayonne Police Sgt. Kevin Gallagher, the five coaches had past criminal convictions that were “not serious”. Gallagher said that letter had been mailed to the five individuals informing them that they are no longer able to coach, but that they (legally) have the right to go before an appeal board comprised of the Police Chief, the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, and the City Business Administrator.
Gallagher said there are still some coaches from Bayonne Youth Football, Bayonne Youth Soccer and Bayonne Travel Hockey who have yet to be fingerprinted and he’s trying to schedule them for background checks..
