On December 8, 2006, authorities in Smyrna, Delaware charged a little league coach with killing his estranged wife. Thomas Kane (age 35), is accused of repeatedly stabbing Wendy Kane at her home overnight. Fortunately, their 9-year-old son fled to a neighbor’s home where police were called. Kane managed 7 and 8-year-old little leaguers for the past two seasons, despite a lengthy criminal record. The league says all managers will now undergo criminal background checks. This comes far too late in my opinion.
